  1. Some years ago, an Irishman, an Englishman and a Scotchman did a bad deed. They were brought to court and sentenced to death. The judge gave them a choice as to what tree they would like to be hanged from. The Englishman said an oak tree. The Scotchman said an ash tree. Then the judge said to the Irishman "Well Pat what tree would you like to be hanged on?" "To a gooseberry bush" said Pat. The judge said that a gooseberry bush would not be strong enough to hold him up. Then Pat said "If it pleases your honour I will wait until it grows". The Englishman and the Scotch man were hanged and Pat is still waiting for a gooseberry bush to grow strong enough to hang him.
