- Elf Shot Cattle (second version).
It occasionally happens that a cow becomes "elf shot". The limbs become stiff and she does not give any milk.
The following is the cure -
The owner gets a blessed candle and lights it. He takes the candle and rubs it down the cows back - from the head to her tail, three times, saying whilst doing so "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen."
Then he rubs the blessed candle round the body three times, repeating the above words. Finally he burns the hairs around her mouth, and holds the candle at her nose until she quenches it. A few minutes time she is quite better.- Collector
