    They would like to meet an ass and cart because they thought it was lucky.
    The people used to try to set and sow all the seed on Good Friday because then it was sure to grow.
    The people would not think it lucky to cut a bush or turn a stone in a fort.
    The people would not cut a white-thorn bush because they had a belief that it was usual for the poor souls to take shelter under it.
    The people believed in the magpies, one for sorrow, two for mirth, 3 for a wedding, 4 for a birth, 5 for solver, 6 for gold and seven for a secret that cannot be told.
    The people would not give away a coal out of the fire unless the person left a turf in its stead.
    The people used to believed that if they caught a leprauchán and kept him that he would tell them where his crock of gold was and that the would be rich for ever.
    No woman would wash on May day because she thought it was not lucky.
