    He then takes the tyre outside the door of the forge and puts it into a large turf fire. When it is heated he takes it out of the fire and puts it on the cart wheel. Then he pours cold water on the wheel and this tightens the tyre on it.
    It is said that the forge water used for cooling irons is a cure for sprains.
    Long ago people often met together in forges to tell stories and to matters with one another.
    Smiths are looked on as being strong men. Some of them fought in some of the Irish battles. In olden times they made swords and pikes for war.
    Forge water is supposed to have power to strengthen the blacksmith if he washes himself in it. The blacksmiths are looked upon as being men.
    It is said that a saint left a blessing on forge water long ago after the blacksmith had made a broach for him which he
