    players. Handball was greatly in vogue in this parish in olden times. It used to be played against the gable of the late Warren Henry's house and the late Edward Mond's of Miltown was the champion. Weight-throwing was common here also in years gone by and the old fair green in Carney was the scene of many great contests in weight throwing. There was always keen rivalry between the men of Leitrum and Sligo when they met at this far famed fair on the 26th May.
