- Before Lent and during Shrove most marriages took place frequently in this part of the country. The month of May was thought to be unlucky for marriages and Friday was also thought to be unlucky. Matches were also made in our district. Sometimes money and stock were given as a fortune to the young married couple.
About a hundred years ago marriages used to take place in the houses. After marriages the people would go back to the man;s house for breakfast. When the breakfast would be over they would go for a drive.
