  2. One of the games played at wakes some time ago was Forfeits. Two men went round through the house taking something from everybody such as :- pipes, tobacco, pocket-knives, handkerchiefs, and all such small articles. When they would have all collected, one bowed down, and the other hands the pledges over in turn, asking what is this person to do to get his pledges back. Then he gives everybody a very hard task. Some might have to stand with their heads up the chimney for an hour. Another
