- The townland of Carrow Gilhooly that I live in was formerly owned by a man the name of Jones of infamous memory. He lived here too and he had a park for deer being a fisherman who joined Cromwell's army he got his share of the spoils. A great Priest heard it said by the people that after his death he was seen by many, riding on his horse at night to the terror of all the country side. There is a townland called Corth Doon and there is a large fort beside the sea. It was said that there was a monastery or friary there in olden times and that there were a lot of them killed near by. It is said that there were nine or ten families living there. One day a ship was sighted prowling around and one old man told them all to hide that night. In the morning(continues on next page)
