  1. It was mostly oaten meal bread, potato cake, and boxty was eaten long ago. Mr Doyle had a mill for grinding oats and corn. It was worked by water. The mill was built beside the river in Coolaney, there was a race of water going from the river out under the mill and there was a turbine under the mill driven by the force of the water. There were sluices so that the water could be driven to the mill to work the turbine. There was a big shaft going from the turbine up to the top storey of the mill. There were four storeys in it. Every storey except the bottom one was packed with oats. There was an underground storey. The second floor was made of tiles with holes in them. There
