- The largest bird in Ireland is the Connemara eagle. it feeds on rabbits hares and other small game. Sometimes it raids poulty-yards and kills pullets, goslings and ducklings.
The sparrow-hawk is a handsome bird. He is the scourge of poultry-farmers. It is a familiar sight to see a sparrow-hawk hovering over a henrun, then dropping on its prey, like a bolt from the blue. It also feeds on blackbirds, thrushes, young partridges, young rabbits and linnets.
