In days gone by the people tied the cows with scolleachs which were made of rushes platted together in the form of a rope. They were fastened to the stake with a gad which was made of fine rods.
The people milk the cows in buckets which is done by the hand. A very old custom in the milking of cows is that when the cow is milked ti dip a finger in the froth and make the sign of the cross on the cows udder.- Collector
