    fastened to the stake with a traveller which allows the chain to go up and down the stake freely. In days gone by the people tied the cows with scolleachs which were made of rushes platted together in the form of a rope. They were fastened to the stake with a gad which was made of fine rods.
    The people milk the cows in buckets which is done by the hand. A very old custom in the milking of cows is that when the cow is milked ti dip a finger in the froth and make the sign of the cross on the cows udder.
