- In times gone by the bread which the people eat was the oaten bread which was made of the oats grown on the farm. The people made the oaten cakes by placing oat-meal, salt, and a little water which they mixed together on a bread-board. They kneaded the cake until it was firm and ready for baking.
This they placed at the front of the fire and left up against the grid iron until it was baked which took about two hours. The bread for the week was all made on one days except in a few houses.
There were three or four mills in the district in times gone by, one at Cloc-Ceim, two in Riverstown one where the creamery is situated to day and the other at Hunters another at John Lougheeds. But before the oats was brought to the mill to be ground it was done in the houses of the people. Between two grind stones or querns as(continues on next page)- Collector
