  1. P.A. McHugh. Mayor of Sligo for 9 years. M.P. for Sligo + Leitrim 1892 to 1909.
    P.A. McHugh Died 1909
You Irish Patriots thought this nation
The knells are ringing from Shore to Shore.
And the linnet sings in deep lamentations.
For our great Irish Statesman thats now nomore.
With his name and pedigree you are well acquainted.
In the Co. Leitrim his first breath he drew.
For he was a credit to the Irish nation
    This Immortal her P.A. McHugh.
That he was a noble-man by birth and breeding
    His glowing intellect did signify,
That he was a genius and a man of eloquence
His country's enemies did not deny.
That he was a Fenian of high distinction.
With a reputation obtained by few.
    Is indisputable beyond contention.
This great Sligo leader P.A. McHugh.
In Ballymote stands an English Courthouse.
Which once refused to let him (go) in.
He took a sledge and the door he mangled
And bade defiance to all within.
