- In olden times the people had different houses from the have now. These houses were usually built under a huge cliff, tree, hill or some other protection which would save it from wind, rain, and other storms which might injure it.
The walls were usually built of clay and roofed with wattles covered with straw rushes or hay. A small hole in the wall served as a window, which was stuffed at night by a bundle of rushes.
In our district is the ruins of an old house which was inhabited about seventy or eighty years ago by a family called Dunleavys.
