    expecting a visitor they would give them oatmeal and they would put potatoes into the fire and roast them. This was called a "cast" They would give the visitor newmilk and butter with the potatoes. They would have a box for a table. If the old people had an extra sixpence in those days do you think that they spent it on a pound of leg beef! No fear! It went on the real wants of the house. They were content enough to have their fill of "spuds" and buttermilk. When a woman made a churning she would go to the market and sell the butter. She would haver to walk a long distance in her bare feet
