- John Brosnan of Glounbawn was a noted storyteller. He used to go rambling to the houses of the district, Dan Culloty's, John Moynihan's and Charles McCarthy's and spend the night telling stories even though the Winter nights were long, they only seemed as long as an hour for his listeners. He loved to tell of the Cross Roads where the ghosts of dead people used to be seen and of haunted places. He used travel late at night.

- Cornelius Harrington who lived near Bally McElligott Catholic church was a famous ghost storyteller. He used to tell numbers of stories of dead people; he used to see and say how he used to see men kicking ball in the middle of the night in a field. He used to visit the neighbours houses every night and spend from half past seven to 11 o'clock telling stories. He was 91 when he died in May 1913.
