    they dressed up, put on long coats with belts around their waists tying them. They wore poke hats decorated with tinsel, feathers and berry-holly. They took the wren and some sticks and visited each house in the neighbourhood and got money. The song they sung was:-
    The wren, the wren the king of all birds,
    St. Stephen's Day he was caught in the furze,
    Although he is little, his family is great
    Rise up kind lady and give us a (trate) treat.

    Dreóilín Dreóilín rí na n-éan
    Lá 'le Stíopháin a gabadh é
    Is mór a bhfuireann
    Is beag é féin
    Is da' bfaighinn-se ceapaire damhasóchainn céim.
