  1. My townland Ballinacartin got its name from the forge which was erected by a man named Begley who came from Iveragh a poor scholar. Like all poor scholars of his time he had a love of learning in him. He travelled from house to house learning and finally settled down here and set up a great business which is carried on today by his descendants. They made spades, slanes, gates and fire cranes, for use in kitchens and were also considered great horse shoers. There is a little river near the place and they used to shoe the wheels there.
