  1. The fat of the cow was melted in a oven. Then a mould was stuck in a sod of turf and a cord was put into the mould as a wick. When the fat was melted it was put on top of the fire to get very hot. This this hot fat was poured into the mould & it was put away to cool. When cooled the candle was taken out of the mould. These candles were called tallow candles.
