The evening sun is sinking
With a sweet and ruddy smile
The sky is now without a guile
The hearts of man ne'r beat
With such a fervent glow
As fills my soul when thus I view
The Lake of Ballyhoe

Sweet lake when other scenes I view
My heart returns to thee
Nor could the thoughts of wealth or fame,
Prove half so sweet to me.
On life's uncertain billows
Where I driven to and fro
My haven of repose would be
The Lake of Ballyhoe.

The rippling glyde that rolls its tide
Through many a winding glen
Where as we spent our boyish days
Mid break in mossy fen
And when a youthful warrior
Doth rush to meet the foe
You would see him leave his parent source
