  1. Marriages in the district take place during shrove. May is an unlucky month for marriages also Satudays. Matches are not made in the district now they used to be. Money is given as a dowry sometimes stock is given. No body remembers marriages taking place in the houses in the district. The wedding feast was held in the bride's house. Bon fires were lighted near the hosue of the bride while the wedding feast was going on. There is no procession or "hauling home", held now. There used to be procession of horses and sidecars often as many as twenty. On this each tried to show off the goodness of his horse so they raced against each other on their way home the best horse came in first in the procesion this was a great honour. Before that they rode on horses to a wedding. The groom sat in front and the bride sat behind on a pillion this pillion was made of cloth and well stuffed. Six or seven horses usually attended a wedding this was also an occasion for great racing. The first man home got a bottle of
