sent to invite them home with the promise that their parents on both sides were quite agreeable. These of course were exceptional, and not the usual kind of marriages which ere the results always of match-making visits to the Bride's homes.
There were three ways in which matches were made locally in Ancient times.
    I Type of the "Runaway"
If a boy was going to marry a girl, he took her with him, and the both ran away to a house of a friend of his. He usually took another man with him along with his intended bride. When they came to the house the men went in, and the lady stayed outside until the woman of the house came out to invite her in. The people of the house then sent out invitations to the children's parents, and friends, and invited them to come. They all came bringing with them bottles of whiskey. The bottles of whiskey were drank, and afterwards the boy and girl were brought home by their parents & their wedding day was arranged.
    II The most Common type.
If a man were looking for a suitable Bride he took another man with him & both sallied forth equipped with a bottle of whiskey to the house of what he considered a lady well suited to be his wife there to interview her parents
