- A rush was peeled and dried. Fat and grease was melted in a little oval shaped like an iron pot called a "cam". The rush was then drawn through the fat and let dry and then drawn again. This process was repeated until the candle was of the required thickness. Sometimes a cord was used instead of a rush.
