- The old houses which existed in the district were thatched. The old people thatched the houses with the rushes they cut in the fields. Most of the houses were round in shape.
They had the bed in the kitchen because the houses were small. They also had a kind of bed and it was called a settle-bed. It could be folded up in the daytime and made into a seat.
The windows were very small and some had no glass in them, just netted wire outside and shutters inside. The floors were made of clay and the walls made of sods and flags.
All the houses had a half-door and a big door. The big door was left open in the daytime(continues on next page)- Collector
