The crowfoot and chicken weed and thistles and nettles are the most harmful weeds growing on our farm. They are harmful because they make the land poor. Thistles and nettles and chicken weed grow where land is good. Crowfoot and scutch grass and rushes grow where land is bad. Nettles are good for a person with a bad stomach. They are boiled first. Dandelions cure worts. Green broom cures coughs. The juice of a turnip and brown sugar cures the whooping cough. Washing soda cures chilblains. Laurel leaves cures a person who has a pain in the head. Thistles are used for feedings pigs. Dandelions and nettles are used for feeding turkeys
