    another old lady. She did not agree with this old lady, because she said that she was not grand enough for her.
    Peggie Swift was a great story-teller when she was in humour, and she was never in humour only when she got mug of strong tea. She used to tell Micheál's (Seana-Mhicil's) stories. This is one of them:-
    One day a many was walking along a road and he came to a small house on the side of the road. The walls were covered with white and red roses. There were two windows with lace curtains on them, and a geranium in a pot in each window.
    There were two ladies in the yard in front of the house. They were trying to get a cow up on the roof of the house.
    "What are yez trying to do?" asked the man.
    "We were trying to get the cow up on the roof of the house, to eat the grass that's there."
    "But," said the man, "Why don't yez cut the grass and give it to the cow?"
    "O! we never thought of that" said one of them.
