- The only man I know that is able to make baskets at the present day is Richard Dowling, Balleen, Freshford. He makes them out of sally rods. He gets the sallies in a field of Joe Dowlings the Castle Balleen, Freshford. He makes them every year for the potato picking. They are used for other purposes too. He sells them at a shilling each. When he is going to make them he gathers the sallies first. Then he gets his implements ready. He use a knife an awl and a hammer. The baskets which he makes are round with two handles in them.
