When the cat sits with her back to the fire, or is seen washing her face over the ears, rain is expected. If we observe her tearing at the trunk of a tree, wind is approaching.
When the midges bite, and are seen hovering in the air, it is a sure sign of rain.
The dog eating grass, or sleeping the greater part of the day also indicate rain.
When the smoke goes up directly, calm weather is expected, otherwise rain is near.
A blue blaze in the fire is a sure sign of storm.
If the chimney refuses to draw and there is a blow down, rain will surely follow.
