- Long ago people used to put names on fields to distinguish one field from another.
Nearly all the fields on our farm have names. For instance - "the long hill", "the big forth". It is said the fairies visit the latter every year.
"The two-cocked hill" is another name.
This was so called because it only yields two cocks of hay.
Another meadow is called "Packies' meadow"
This land belonged to Packie Kelly and when he died, my father bought it. It was in this meadow Packie Kelly fell dead, and there has never been any grass on that spot since.- Collector
