  1. One day there were a number of men hauling trammels near Cannaig a h-Éadachaín in Kenmare Bay. A storm arose and all the men were drowned except one man whose name was Pat Sullivan Bates Ardea. He was born with a cap on his head which was known as a "cawl".
    The old people beleive that anyone who was born with a "cawl" would never be drowned. When the rest of the men were drowned he stayed on the keel of the boat until another boat came to [the] rescue.
