- Long ago there lived in Loughanacreen on old soldier whose name was Jeremiah Shea a native of Glenmore. In his youth he was very wild and very violent when he was drunk so he joined the English army. After a few years' service he had to go to the battle field and there he fought in several battles and escaped without a wound.
There he suffered terribly from hunger. On one occasion he paid a shilling for a pound of a gut of a horse to eat. this man had a very bad record in the army and very bad marks against him.
