There was another staple on the frame for the chain to be fastened on to. This chain was called a hasp. The door was fastened from the inside by a timber bolt that was shoved into a groove in the frame of the door.
There was a half door in every house outside the big door to keep out fowl and cold. These doors are in many houses yet.
In some houses there was only one window. Two windows were the most that were in the houses. There was only one pane in each window. Some people used only have a bag of straw in them that used be taken out during the day to leave in the light.
The light they had at night was got from bogdeal splinters.
