    The multitude ceased praying
    They ran o'er hill and dale.
    The Sound of blood hounds baying
    Wich made the stoutest quail.

    Thus did the father speak
    Then fled across the hollow
    His hiding place to seek.

    But ere he reached his dwell-ing
    When swiftly on his track,
    Like hungry blood hounds smelling
    Came Englands cruel pack.

    And now but louder higher
    Their hellish cries arose,
    For helpless stood the friar
    A Capture mid his foes

    And maids and mothers even
    Who with shrill for mercy prayed,
    Ah! God was mercy given to them
    With musket ball and blade.
