  1. On the 13th of April 1921 the English military and police both Irish Constabulary and Black and Tans surrounded the Loughglynn wood where on flying column of the I.R.A. were camped at Roger Mc Dermott's home. Captain John Bergin and Adjutant Stephen W Mc Dermott were mortally wounded. The others escaped. It was reported in Castlerea that a number of the British were killed. Volunteer Satchwell who was taken wounded to Castlerea saw at least five dead bodies. This poem was written about the event.
