    and sixty and died nineteen thirty one and was buried in the ancient churchyard of Cloonaff. Poor old "Jamesy" as he was usually called, when not engaged in working on the farm, went fishing. He had the gift of poetry from his ancestors. He was also a famous swimmer and composed many poems. One was a lament for a neighbour named Bernard Quinn. Another was of a girl in Kilglass who married a man in Killbride. It was named the "Pride of Kilmore". A verse of the former was:-
    In Aughrims lonely churchyard his bones are laid to rest.
    O, may the clay, though cold it be, lie gently on his breast.
    When to our flag in sixty seven bold Erin called her son.
    He led the Fenian band he taught the serf and Saxon to yield.
    And showed them how to stand behind their guns.
