- One time boots were rare in Mullinavat. Most people went around bare footed.
A woman living in Buckstown bought a pair of boots to wear going to Mass. The boot-maker tied them with a string for her to carry. The next morning she put them ón her without cutting the string for she thought it was a charm or some thing she did not know about. About a half míle down the road she met a man. She was falling and hopping along. She said 'be gor a man I can not walk at all in my new shoes.' At this the man took out his knife and cut the string. She said 'God bless you, only for you I would be late for Mass'- Collector
