  1. Long ago there was a woman who died in Buckstown. Her name was Susan Buckley. She lived alone in the house. She had a wooden pipe and when she was dead the people had it at the wake. She had six pounds gathered up and she gave it to the priest to have an Office and High Mass over her when she was dead. On the night of the wake there was a halfpenny candle stuck in a bottle on a table beside her. Nearly all the men that were there got a smoke of the pipe and every one that got a smoke had to pray for her soul. They had to light it with the candle. When the candle went out they were all in the dark and they began to sing and dance until morning.
