  1. Kilkenny
I will describe to you all I know about Kilkenny long ago. The ancient Irish name of Kilkenny was Ossory, in Irish Uisraigag. It was derived from "uisce" water and "riask" which means the kingdom between the two rivers.
These two rivers were the Barrow and the Suir. Since that time the boundary has retreated from the Suir towards the Nore.
King Aengus was the first King in Ossory. He lived in the time of the Red Branch Knights. From the earliest ages settlers loved a private place in a river basin or a well-watered sheltered Valley. The Johnswell hills are from Athy to near Gowran that is what makes the valley sheltered.
