  1. Hedge Schools
    Hedge schools were plentiful between too and 150 yers ago before its catholic emancipation
    The reason they were called hedge schools was that there very few teachers. They taught in farmers barns and under hedges in summer time. The pupils sat around on stones and held their books and slates on their knees. They thaught other languages besides Irish. The pupils often turned out very good Greek and Latin scholars.
