    When Tolls the Chapel Bell.
    The summer sun is climbing
    O'er the brow of Slievenamon:
    How calm and beautiful the scene
    His morning beams fall on!
    The mists that rise from Anner's stream,
    And sparkling dewy dale
    Bedeck the green and purple slopes
    As with a bridal veil.
    The verdant fields and golden grain,
    Like patchwork, here and there Outlined by wild-rose hedges, spread
    From Cappagh on to Clare.
    Then bee and bird and lowing herd,
    And craiking of machines,
    With swish of scythe, and anvil clink,
    Enliven all the scene.
