    The horses which happened to be the best for far around were dressed in new harnesses and green rosettes.
    The custom began in the morning when the Captain emmerged from the doorway the servants came to attention and saluted. The horse was yoked to the plough. A guard of honour was formed and the Captain was led to the plough. He ploughed the first sod and this was called the maiden sod. That night a dance was held in the avenue and when the lanterns were lit they could be seen for a good distance all around and which caused the people to come flocking to the dance.
