- The Market Cross
The Market Cross stood in High Street. It was of very elegent design rising from a square bacement to which ascended on each side, six stone steps. On the four marble columns a vaulted arch sprang and there is an obelisk supporting the Cross on which has a sculptured figure of the Crucifixion. This Cross was erected in 1335. It was taken down in 1771 with the intention of having it re-erected on the Parade but this intention was never carried into execution.
