When the time arrived for departing, Lord Carrick tried to persuade the colonel to remain with him for the night, because it was suspected that Freyne the robber was in the district. The colonel was undaunted by these warnings and laughing with scorn and boasting of his bravery he departed on his journey to Woodstock.
