- There was a boy long ago he walked till it was dark. He went up to a house and a lady opened the door. He asked her could he stay there for the night. But she said he could not. He said that the house was big enough. She said there was something in it and he could not stay. She said he would have to suffer three nights for her, and he said he would do that. Then she got the supper ready and said "good nights." In the middle of the night there men came in and said "good night" but the boy did not answer. They kicked him, but, he would not speak.
The second night they came again and he would not speak. The third night the men came and put him in a furness but he did not speak. Then they brought him out and sprinkled a bottle of something on him and he was better.
In the morning the girl brought the boy to her grandmother and said that he suffered the three nights for her. Then the grandmother sent him with two men to walk(continues on next page)- Collector
