When I mentioned to an old inhabitant that I had read that the present owners were direct descendants of the Shortalls dispossessed by Cromwell - the old man indignantly informed me that "they're no such thing" that "the real Shortall is the lad who lives in BallyLarkin." The man referred to still lives. He is a labourer about 60 years old. 'Tis generally accepted by the older people that his ancesters 'never' left the district.
The Shortalls who lives at Clomantagh Castle is grandson or great grand son of a Shortall who came here from Connaught.
