    Old women shook their hoary heads and every one could see,
    Death hovered round our village pride, Mary Óg Macree.

    Down by the "Ancient Abbey" grove she sleeps the last long sleep,
    The shamrocks grow around her grave, the wind in Winter weeps,
    Two numbers and a simple vow,
    The truth to you Ill tell,
    We planted round the lonely grave of Mary Óg Macree.
