On the 22nd of January 1895 the big snow started to fall and it snowed for three weeks. All the roads and lanes were blocked and the traffic stopped. There was no work done on the land for seven weeks and the snow remained on the ground from January until the middle of May. A lot of whins round the country rotted and died away. There were great crops after the snow and a very plentiful harvest.
On the 23rd of August 1895 it was a very warm day and at about five o’clock in the evening the thunder and lightning started and the storm raged for three hours without rain. The thunder shook old dwellings of a Mr Doogan at Rock Chapel in the Magheracloone district. The next great thunder and lightning was on the 6th of June 1920. It was forked lightning and the light showed for a long distance. On the seventh of October 1907 there was another great thunder and lightning storm. It did a good deal of damage.
