    The roofs are levelled and the inmates driven
    By the bleak road-side to pine or die.
    Those lordly magnates sit hot and cosy
    In their stately mansions o'er their steaming wine
    But those stalwarth peasants who toil their lifetime
    Have no home or shelter in their native Clime
    In some generation their will rise some statesman
    Who will liberate this unhappy land
    And bring back that freedom, so long denied us,
    That has been promised from God's right hand.
