- A black dogHe looked with red fiery eyes around him, and snatching the remaining slice of bread between his two great rows of white teeth he bounded through the open door and disappeared in the "Shades".
The girls got terribly annoyed and wished they had never done this trick at all. Of course we would not do such a silly thing as (like) that now. But as time passed by, they soon forgot all about it, continuing as usual at their house-hold duties.
Some years passed by, and two of the girls got married, each to the man who took each peice of the bread.
Tradition tells us that the third girl got married also, to a stranger, who afterwards was hung for some crime he committed.
